Sliding door & ranch slider tips
Short tips on keeping a ranch slider gliding, from the team at We Fix Sliding Doors NZ.
Vacuum the bottom track of your ranch slider once a month. Grit on the rail is what grinds rollers down, and a two-minute clean is the cheapest repair there is.
Skip the oil and grease. They feel like they help for a day, then hold every bit of grit that lands on the track. A clean, dry track is better.
If your ranch slider has started to bump or rumble, that's usually the rollers going flat. Replacing them early stops them wearing the track as well.
Ranch slider won't lock? Before blaming the lock, look at the door itself. Worn rollers let a door sink until the lock's hook misses the keeper on the frame.
In winter, condensation can run down the glass and sit in the bottom track. Wipe it dry, and keep the track's drain holes clear so water can get out.
Getting a quote? Five photos tell us most of what we need: the whole door, the door open, the top track, the bottom track, and the handle and lock.
North Shore
On the coast, salt air reaches further than you'd think. Wipe the track and the bottom of the frame with fresh water now and then, and dry them.
West Auckland
Out west, rain washes leaves and grit into the track. A quick vacuum after a wet week saves the rollers from grinding through it.
