If the frame and glass are sound, a stiff ranch slider usually needs new rollers and a restored track, not a new door. When each makes sense, and what each costs.

If the frame and the glass are sound, a stiff ranch slider usually needs new rollers and a restored track — not a new door. Replacing makes sense when the frame itself is damaged.

Repair or replace?
New rollers and a restored track. From $450 incl. GST.
- ✓Keeps your door, frame and glass
- ✓Most repairs take 1–2 hours
- ✓Slides with one finger — or it's free
- ✓Tracks guaranteed 5 years, rollers 3
- ✗Won't fix a bent frame or broken glass
Best when: the slider is hard to move, bumps, drags or won't lock, and the frame is straight.
Most of what goes wrong with a ranch slider happens in two small parts: the rollers and the bottom track. Both can be replaced or restored, which is why a repair is usually the quicker and cheaper answer.

When a repair may not be enough
Signs it might be time for a new door
- The frame is visibly bent or twisted
- Corrosion has eaten through the frame, not just the track
- The glass is cracked or the panel is broken
- You're changing the opening anyway, as part of a renovation
Tip
Older sliders are often worth saving
We repair most aluminium sliding doors and ranch sliders. If the frame is sound, new rollers and a restored track usually bring an older one back — send us five photos and we'll confirm before you book.
How a repair goes
The repaired ranch slider has to slide with one finger, or the repair is free — so you'll know on the day whether it worked.
