What each photo shows us
| What we look for | |
|---|---|
| 1. Overall door | The size, the type, and how many panels slide |
| 2. Door opened | The frame, and how the door sits in it |
| 3. Top track | The guide that keeps the door upright |
| 4. Bottom track | The rail: wear, dents and corrosion |
| 5. Handle and lock | The lock, and whether it lines up |
Good photos, quickly
Do
- Take them in daylight, or with the lights on
- Get close for the tracks and the lock
- Fit the whole door in the first shot
- Tap to focus before you take it
Don't
- Zoom in from the far side of the deck
- Shoot straight into bright sun behind the door
- Worry about the rollers — they're hidden, and that's fine
Tip
The one that matters most
The bottom track, close up, with the slider open. It shows the rail and, from how the door sits on it, a lot about the rollers.
